Wound to Spec
Voltage / Potential Transformers, Wound to Spec
A voltage transformer (VT), historically called a potential transformer (PT), scales a high system voltage down to a standardized low-voltage signal — typically 120 V — so meters, relays, and monitoring equipment can measure it without being exposed to the primary. Unlike a power transformer, the job is not to deliver energy but to reproduce the primary waveform faithfully at the burden it actually sees.
We wind VTs up to 35 kV primary with 120 V secondaries and custom ratios, in metering (0.3) and protection classes, at 50 or 60 Hz, with the rated burden your instrumentation requires. Our engineers spec insulation system, ratio, and burden for free, and every unit is individually ratio-tested and hipot-verified before it ships, not batch-sampled.
Applications
Where Voltage & Potential Transformers Are Used
Anywhere system voltage has to be measured accurately and safely — the revenue meter, the relay panel, the SCADA point, and the test bench.
Revenue Metering
Class 0.3 accuracy for billing-grade voltage measurement at utility and campus meters.
Protective Relaying
Accurate voltage reference for over/under-voltage, distance, and sync-check relays.
Power Monitoring
Scaled voltage signals for SCADA, switchgear instrumentation, and power quality systems.
Test & Lab
High-accuracy reference VTs for calibration benches, test stands, and lab setups.
