Custom flyback transformers for switch-mode power supplies

Wound to Spec

Flyback Transformers, Wound to Spec

A flyback transformer is really a coupled inductor: it stores energy in a gapped core while the switch is on and releases it into the secondary when the switch turns off. That makes it the workhorse of low- and mid-power isolated converters — and it makes the gap, turns ratio, and leakage inductance the difference between a design that runs cool and one that never gets through EMI testing.

We wind single-output and multi-output flybacks from a few watts up to roughly 250 W, for switching frequencies from 20 kHz to 500 kHz, with the isolation, bobbin, and footprint your board requires. Send us the controller, the input range, and the outputs — our engineers spec the rest for free, and every unit is individually tested before it ships.

Applications

Where Flyback Transformers Are Used

Wherever an isolated converter has to deliver several rails from one small magnetic — on the board, not in the cabinet.

Switch-Mode Power Supplies

Isolated AC-DC and DC-DC supplies where one magnetic has to produce several regulated rails.

EV & Battery Charging

Bias and auxiliary supplies riding on high-voltage DC buses, with the isolation to match.

Industrial Electronics

Drives, instrumentation, and control boards that need compact isolated power on-board.

Standby / Aux Power

Low-power always-on rails for housekeeping, gate drive bias, and control logic.

FREQUENTLY ASKED QUESTIONS

Flyback Transformers

A flyback transformer stores energy in its gapped core during the switch-on period and delivers it to the secondary when the switch turns off. Unlike a conventional transformer, primary and secondary currents never flow at the same time — which is why it is described as a coupled inductor rather than a true transformer.
Yes. Multi-output secondaries are one of the main reasons designers choose flyback topology, and we regularly wind three, four, or more outputs on a single core with the cross-regulation and isolation you specify.
We wind flybacks for switching frequencies from 20 kHz up to 500 kHz. Above roughly 100 kHz the winding strategy matters more than the core — we use the wire construction and interleaving that keeps AC losses and leakage inductance under control at your frequency.
No — no minimums and no maximums. We build from a single prototype through full production runs, with free engineering and a working prototype typically in 48 hours.
