Reviving the Classic Record Sounds of the World's Most Revered Artists
Pacific Transformer Assists in Bringing Back a Recording Studio Icon
What do The Rolling Stones, Paul Simon, David Bowie, Queen, Elton John, The Doors, Deep Purple, Genesis, and The Beatles all have in common (besides being musical icons)? They all have made records that were recorded on a Sound Techniques analog console.
Sound Techniques equipment was used to record legendary albums including Space Oddity, The White Album, Yellow Submarine, Goodbye Yellow Brick Road, and others. The company operated only from 1967 to 1974, producing approximately a dozen hand-built consoles before ceasing operations.
"The most amazing array of albums were done through a Sound Techniques board, and no one knows it." —Engineer Ken Scott

In 2015, studio owner Danny White and partners acquired Sound Techniques and created a modern reproduction called the 'ZR' console. Engineers sourced original component suppliers including Painton and Ernst for faders and meters.
Engineer Graham Milnes reverse-engineered the original transformers, determining the core material contained 50 percent nickel laminate and replicating all parameters including turns ratios and impedances. Pacific Transformer assisted in developing vintage reproductions, achieving results described as virtually identical to originals.

We were thrilled to be a part of such an amazing project and look forward to hearing the next generation of classic albums that the ZR will surely help shape.
